Fellow MITSA members,

It is with great pride that I present the following to you about two of our Junior members. Both Rob and Matt were selected to the Air Force Academy Summer Scientific Seminar. This was a highly selective process where 2000-3000 applicants, nationwide, apply for 650 positions (2 sessions, 325 each). During our meeting last December with the representative from the Academy he filled us in on the application process which is very stringent. He also mentioned that he has not had anyone accepted from this area in over ten years. I would like to attribute part of their success on being accepted to this club. The rep was very impressed with the MITSA Juniors program and the fact that these guys worked for lessons showed determination. Both are excited about going, and being able to attend at the same time should make this another highlight for them.

See you all at the field,
Ray

AREA HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS SELECTED

Two local high school Juniors have been selected from a number of highly competitive applicants for the United States Air Force Academy Summer Scientific Seminar. Robert F. Cutler III from Sterling who attends St. Johns High School and Matthew S. Tadry, also from Sterling, who attends Wachusett Regional High School were selected to attend the program at the Academy in Colorado Springs in June. The selection process was based on academic, community service and individual interests. Both are Honors students at their respective high schools, firefighter recruits with the Sterling Fire Department and solo pilots with the MIT Soaring Association (MITSA). They are founding members of the MITSA Juniors program, which provides flight training for club work at Sterling Airport.

The Scientific Seminar program at the Academy is focused at increasing science, engineering and math skills, and provides first hand experience of Academy life as a cadet. Both are considering the military academy as a potential for college.
